Amy Ellison here... I suppose I'll do the introduction thing first. I just graduated from UWG last spring, and I am currently working with Carroll County Schools. I teach English and Drama at Central High. I am not remotely experienced, unless being in the field for two months counts as experience. I have a mixture of courses and learning levels, so I'm getting a variety of students as well as experiences. In any case, I'm here for discussion and any questions that are posed concerning the first-year teaching experience. And like any good teacher/student I have opinions on everything, so feel free to ask any of those other questions as well.

Hi Amy I used to teach at Central High School. How are you enjoying it? I only taught for two years, before deciding to get my masters degree. I thought that if I was going to school full-time I would get done quicker than if I continued teaching at the same time. Well, it's taken me three years (if all goes well, I'll graduate in May). Probably shoulda kept the job! Heh.. I'd probably apply there again if a job came open, and we were still living in the area. Hope you're enjoying it. What hall are you on? I was in 319. -Melissa

I'm in your old room! Feel free to stop by one day and see my version of the place. How funny!
I'm not really enjoying it -- but I think that I'm just finding out that I would be a better fit doing something else. I really enjoy teaching, but I don't think high school is for me. I'm going on the fast-track master's degree next summer. I miss college a great deal, and hope to end up teaching at one in the next few years.
If you are thinking about going back, email me and I'll tell you privately what I think. One has to be quiet when talking about one's school system, for good or for bad... I'm sure you understand. Please feel free to email me and we'll talk.

Does English 4300 teach Grammar? I know UWG has a history of English but I wanted to take a class that was learning grammar. Thanks.
